Dust is typically defined as an aerosol of solid particles, mechanically produced, with individual particle diameters of 0.1µm and larger. Dust can pose a significant issue in almost any industry, from bakeries to construction sites.
Address the potentially harmful effects of dust on people’s health with comprehensive dust monitoring.Dust can be generated by various activities, including traffic, construction, demolition, mineral extraction, and general industrial operations. With increasing awareness of the health and environmental problems caused by dust, many local authorities now require dust monitoring as part of planning conditions. Often, a baseline survey is needed, particularly as part of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), to establish acceptable thresholds.
There are generally two approaches to measuring the amount of dust deposited on a surface:
1. Determination of surface soiling by assessing changes in surface properties.
2. Determination of dust quantity by weight deposited over time.
Within these approaches, several methodologies are employed, including:
• Deposit Gauges: Simple yet accurate methods for measuring nuisance dust. Dust is collected onto a horizontally mounted container or, in the case of a Directional Dust Gauge, into four vertical tubes aligned in different directions.
• Sample Analysis: Dust samples are collected by washing the container and foam insert into a collecting bottle. The sample is then passed through a pre-weighed filter, conditioned, and re-weighed. The quantity of dust collected over a known area and period is calculated to determine the deposition rate. Additionally, the dust can be analyzed to identify the presence of specific substances.

Airly Air Quality Monitor
The Airly Air Quality Monitor is an advanced device used to measure various environmental parameters, focusing primarily on ambient air quality. It is capable of detecting and measuring particulate matter (PM1, PM2.5, and PM10), temperature, humidity, and other key air quality indicators.
How It Works
The Airly monitor utilizes laser-based sensors and other sophisticated technology to capture real-time data on particulate matter in the air. The device continuously measures air quality, capturing data on PM1, PM2.5, and PM10 concentrations, along with other environmental factors. The data collected by the Airly monitor is processed and analyzed to provide accurate, up-to-date information.
Data Presentation
The data from the Airly monitor will be configured to display at regular intervals for the selected parameters on a unique plan view. The monitoring system is equipped to send threshold breach alerts via SMS or email when defined trigger limits are exceeded. Additionally, individual user accounts will be provided to client contacts, allowing them to view and download monitoring data as needed.
Compliance
The Airly Air Quality Monitor is fully compliant with the Performance Standards for Indicative Ambient Particulate Monitors. This compliance ensures that the data provided by the Airly device meets the necessary accuracy and reliability standards required for indicative air quality monitoring.
